Kia Motors has picked the 2010 Chicago motor show to unveil its new Ray plug-in hybrid concept car. It's a futuristic look at what a 4.4m-long Kia family car of tomorrow could look like. It's based on the Kia Forte platform, but boosted by a plug-in hybrid system mixing a 151bhp direct-injection 1.4-litre petrol with the latest lithium-polymer batteries.
The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Special Edition is just another ‘Special Edition’ Veyron, this time for Pebble Beach. However special the Bugatti Veyron is, it’s hard to get excited when the press release drops in the inbox with the heading ‘Special Edition Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse debuts at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering’. Because you just know it won’t be special.

Think of the cars that Christian von Koenigsegg has made since he started with the CC8S in 2002 and you think of them as extremes of the supercar genre; the Swedish engineering take on the bloated and massively complex Bugatti Veyron. Christian’s men in a shed in Sweden have gone on to make a series of progressively quicker and more impressive supercars, through the CCR, CCX and the Agera and on to the current most extreme iteration – the Koenigsegg One:1. But it looks like Christian has decided that his ambition to create the world’s greatest hypercar leaves room for a ‘Lesser’ Koenigsegg, a car that still has innovative engineering and extreme performance but comes at a lower price.
